NORTH STAR STEEL MONROE FACILITY WILL NOW BE MACSTEEL-MONROE

 

 

 “It’s official,” stated Mark Marcucci, President of MACSTEEL.  “All due diligence matters have been completed and we are very pleased to formally welcome the Monroe facility to the MACSTEEL team.  This new addition will provide us with a total shipping capacity of 1.2 million tons per year and extend our size range down to 0.5625 inch.  This additional capacity and capability will provide MACSTEEL with new opportunities to satisfy our customers increasing demands for high quality engineered steel bars.  Our customer’s will also benefit from a financially strong company that will continue to be a stable source of steel supply, year in and year out.  This type of transaction supports MACSTEEL’s long term vision to provide value to our greatest asset – our customers.”

 

The newly named MACSTEEL – MONROE facility is located in Monroe, Michigan, which is 25 miles south of Detroit.  The operation is a scrap based mini-mill producer of special bar quality and engineered steel bars primarily serving the light vehicle and heavy-duty truck markets.  MONROE has revenues of approximately $175 million and can ship over 500,000 tons of cut length bars in diameters from 0.5625 to 3.250 inch.  The plant employs roughly 380 employees and is ISO 9002, QS 9000 and ISO 14001 certified.  There will be a ratified 4 year labor agreement effective January 1, 2004 between the UAW and MACSTEEL.

 

MACSTEEL also has steel making facilities in Jackson, MI, Fort Smith, AR and a Heat Treating facility in Huntington, IN.   Marcucci continued, “This addition will make MACSTEEL one of the largest long product SBQ manufacturers in the world.  We come to this position because of our dedication to produce quality products that meet and exceed our customer’s expectations.  The Monroe operation complements MACSTEEL industry-leading position extremely well, as they have a customer focused culture that is backed by an empowered, dedicated and passionate workforce.  The integration will be very natural and we are really looking forward to finding synergies and new opportunities that will help our customers become more successful.”
